The Trip: Day 16--evening

Last night we went to dinner at a different neighbor´s house. It was a birthday party of some sort. Dinner is a relatively light affair in Spain and begins late--anywhere from 10-12 at night. Generally the main meal is lunch--around 3-4 in the afternoon.

Anyway, dinner last night was empanadas of various sorts cut into basically bite sized pieces and set out around the table so that the plate was pretty much optional. The most interesting and I think tastiest was the morcita. It contained pigs blood and onion, sauteed together then stuffed in the empanada. Also interesting was the dessert...leche frita. To the bast of my knowledge that translates as fried milk. And that´s exactly what it tasted like. It was pretty good, though not my favorite. I didn´t know you could fry milk.

The Spanish have mastered the art of the long meal. We got there around 9:30 and were there for at least 3 hours. And most of that time is spent sitting around talking.
